We live in a world which is full of bloggers, and each one has their own set of prejudices, biases, ideas and silly superstitions. We all have them, and there is nothing wrong with this. However, what is often a bad idea (and it is a problem which you can see a lot when you look at blogs) is that the blogger treats everyone else’s opinion as less worthy of respect and contemplation than their own is. While everybody is entitled to their own opinion, some people are under the impression that theirs is just the best opinion that was ever uttered in the history of the world.
While it is always nice to be confident in onesself, it goes above and beyond the realm of decency when you begin to think of yourself as being above any sort of dissenting opinions that someone else might have. If you start to get that cocky, you need to come down off the high horse and examine things from other people’s points of view. Being all self important, even in your own blog, is a great way to turn people off and turn it into nothing more than one person venting all by themselves. And what in the world could be any sadder than that old blogging cliche?
Simply put, you have got to think in terms of other people when you state your opinions. Just because somebody disagrees with you does not mean that they are wrong. And just because their opinion may be part of a very small minority does not mean it has no redeeming characteristics. It may actually be well thought out, and it may be as worthy of respect as your opinion ever was. You can never tell when it comes to these sorts of things. You might also want to keep in mind that someone else might not think you’re right.
